Hi,
My name is Dawuda. I am so excited to find this forum. I am not a regular checking farmer but picked interest in incubating eggs lately. My wife and I raise some local chickens. I notice how our chickens are not hatching all their eggs and we are losing checks before they grow well for one reason or the other. When I stumbled on 112 eggs incubator I ordered for one. It will arrive this week and I wanted to familiarize myself with hatching tips and stuff like that before its arrival. This is how I found this forum and I trust that I will learn from the member’s experiences.

Welcome to BYC. As AlleysChicks said, please read the incubating and hatching articles here on BYC before attempting to incubate eggs. Start small, 112 eggs is a lot of eggs. Start with a dozen or so local eggs just in case something goes wrong. It is heartbreaking to lose chicks because of not understanding exactly what is going on. It can also be very expensive to lose them.
Make sure you have a calibrated thermometer and hygrometer that are independent of your incubator instruments so that you can know precisely what the temp and humidity are all the time during incubation.
Run the incubator for several days before putting eggs in so that you can tweak it to where you need it to be without risking the eggs.
Have a good plan for all your chicks, especially the roosters. Make sure you have a safe, predator proof coop for them that is sized correctly for the number of chickens you want to keep.
Good luck, enjoy the hatching process, it is so much fun as long as you are well prepared. :frow

Hi, Thanks for the welcome and the advice. I encountered two major issues. First the control of humidity and second which is the major and worst one is power outage.

I think I was too excited to begin with high spirit though I toke my time to read and watched so much about many questions that I have to get started. I actually set dozens of Guinea Fowl eggs. I tested my incubator as advised and set the eggs day one First July 2018 on 38.0 temperature. Eggs were automatically turned after every two hours and the temperature dangled between 35.5/37.9 and 38.00. I truly struggled with understanding the aspect of controlling humidity. Since day one through day four it has been dangling between 70-75. I was not able to bring it lower than that. But in the long run it stabilized at 72 and I wonder if the eggs are OK because it seem to be too high!!
I have three sources of power supply namely national electricity power supply, my stand by generator, and Gel Batteries powered by solar panels. Unfortunately the public source of light ran for only 6hrs on day one and since then it was no more. I fall back to my solar for the past six days and occasionally having it rest for like 3 to 5 give hours in the night while I supplement the power with the stand by generator. Unfortunately the solar power went off without warning today (in the night) day 8. Now the incubator might remain several hours (approximately 7hrs or more) Though my stand by gen is in good condition and functional but I wonder for how long am I to use it to rescue the eggs. I am sure the next day the solar will pick and work all day long but there will definitely be a repeat of power problem even in the next day unless there is a full restoration of power supply as stand by generator will not handle this. I actually did some candling and I was able to see some seemingly good developments (though not very sure of the embryos development as this is my first time and first experience). Wow!! Only 8 days now. I am not sure of what to do and I am like a kind of thinking the whole thing will have a very negative outcome. But I am encouraged with the testimonies I read in this forum. I will not totally give up until I am certain there is no hope or remedy to rescue the situation.
