12 blue/black copper marans eggs - MD

Quote:
Marans breeders frequently get slack, so I am sure some are just tired of it.......

eta-he wasn't really asking nicely why her eggs were so expensive, it seemed quite condescending...the rolleyes kind of showed that

Why do they cost so much?
Because they're trendy, because they're somewhat rare
and/or a novelty. Because there's a demand for them.
I paid $65. for a dozen Marans eggs. I didn't grip about it I just forked over the money no questions asked.
Do you walk into a Cadillac dealer's showroom and ask him to sell you a Caddie for $100.?
Please consider the fact that many of us have invested hundreds of dollars in purchasing quality breeding stock so why should we sell it cheap?
That's just my 2 cents worth.

peachick - Will you be selling hatching eggs later on in the year?
I really like the color of your eggs!

I just paid 60 for 6 eggs. that is over 10.00 for each egg. If this person is selling eggs for a certain price, why does anyone have to question it. If it is worth it someone will buy. If not they won't. The more exotic and rare the higher the price.

I apologize for my sarcasm.... yesterday was not a good egg day. Working with shipping FRESH eggs and peoples schedules, people changing their mind. Now I am sitting here with a dozen maran eggs and a dozen Ameracana eggs because people that have paid for them "cant take them now" . I'm going to have to plug in another incubator, cut open the shipping boxes, and incubate these eggs myself because they ain't getting any fresher. It makes no sence because I have huge waiting lists of people that SAID they wanted them.

(and this is the third time recently this has happened)

As for the price of the marans eggs. The breeder I bought my birds from charges $60 per dozen. I recently ordered Wheaten marans from another breeder and I paid him $60 per dozen. I look online and people are selling them for $100 plus per dozen!! I am not getting rich or improving my lifestyle over the price of these eggs. I'm just following everyone else's lead. And trying to be fair about the price.

Quality eggs come from quality birds, quality birds come from quality eggs, if you bought into a premium bloodline and have a premium product why listen to what anyone says. The cash that the eggs bring typically goes to feed, improving the stock, upgrading the pen, people typically aren't compensated at all for their time, it is the passion for the breed and the desire to produce some of the best chickens/eggs out there. It costs money to get to the point that you can sell eggs, a lot of investment, don't feel bad if you're wanting to defray your costs by asking a bit higher price for your product and don't feel bad if some people don't want to pay the price you are asking for.

People ask me “Dave, why can't I reserve my ship date without paying in full?” and my reply is “I can only ship eggs and day old chicks on a specific date and they must have a home”. Require money up front, it is the ONLY way to guarantee you won't be stuck with eggs/chicks, it might sound jerkish but that's the way it has to be.
Peace,
Dave

Yeah, I paid $60 for CUCKOO eggs last year. We all know how the Cuckoos are not as popular as the black coppers or some of the other more rare varieties. But I paid it because I am working to improve egg color, and you pay good money to get good quality.

Peachick, your eggs and birds are gorgeous. Do you have a blue copper roo over solid hens? If I were closer, I'd just come pick up those eggs from you!

if i hadn't have just bought a bunch of birds and eggs i'd be buying them from ya. seller sets the price if a customer don't like it they don't have to buy em plain and simple. if u got excellent bloodlines and u paid high prices why should u pay others to get ur eggs or be sorry? i'd rather eat em or hatch em myself then give em away too.
