12+ Buff Orp hatching eggs PA

Yeah, it was NOT a problem with your eggs. On day 14, out of the 24 you sent, only one was clear and tossed. Every egg at least began to develop, and many of them made it into the third week. We ran the temps around 102 this time, because of the bad result we had last time following the instructions that came with the LG.

Our big challenge will be figuring out how to increase humidity.

I am on day 18 with Jody's eggs and have all 11 developing nicely. One never developed at all. 4 were broken because of the )*^#*$&(#)*#@@ PO.

Not to hijack Jody's thread, but NP, you must get a hovabator. It will make ALL the difference. I bet it was your humidity issue. Beg your hubby or just go order one. I read so many people have probs with the LG. My genesis does everything for me, practically.

Jody, I will keep you updated on the eggs. Look for a thread in the hatching forum. Wish I could spring for your lavs......

Jennifer, glad to hear the eggs are doing well. I agree on the Hovabators over the LGs. I love the genesis for a small model bator. It's basically a "set it and forget it" kind of bator (except for adding water now & then). I hope your hatch goes well. I will keep an eye out for an update.

Can I ask a question to all you experts? I have my first broody chicken right now. She is a silkie, sitting on eggs, I know she was "busy with the Mr" but I don't know that she knows what she is doing.

Do I just leave her go and let her sit on them and see what happens? Is there a rule of thumb that the eggs don't hatch until the hen is a certain age or only after her first season or anything like that?

Thanks,...I have no clue what I am doing here!!

I just ordered the hovabator 1588 today. Hopefully

:fl:fl it will be here in a couple of days. Would these be good for a first time try?

The only way to find out if your broody will be a "good mom" is to let her try. I don't see any harm in it and you can always candle her eggs in a week or so to see if things look ok.

kim - I wouldn't recommend shipped eggs to test out a new bator. Do you have chickens (with a roo) that you can test some home eggs first? I get great results on these eggs, but to ensure success you should test your bator first.

I do have chickens and roos, but none of my chickens are laying yet. The oldest ones are 19 weeks today...

Maybe by the time my bator ships, I will have some eggs to experiment on..

Boy, my kids are going to be mad at me if I don't let them eat those eggs! LOL!!
