Charlie , This is very tempting!! I would be bidding on these and also wanted to bid on the Orps that were offered if I still had a bator. My husband stepped on my Hova when he was putting Christmas decorations away. It was my fault though because I should not have wrapped it up and put it on the floor. I wanted to get a new Hova this month but my van blew the tranny so I have to wait until March. I hope you will still be getting lots of eggs and offering some auctions then. We love the birds we got from you and Jody. They are so beautiful .

I would so have bought them for more blood in my flocks but I don't want tails introduced into my flocks. If you ever have some without tails and have not had tails in their bloodlines, I may bid. Nice rumpless birds and tufts in your flocks. I love the colors mixed together.

Nadine your choice, breed your rumpless a few years then you will see what happens without ever having tails around.....

of course just having rumpless birds doesnt mean all the chicks will be all rumpless chicks..

For me Ive had my araucana a few years and like my few tailed birds i have here..

I have been breeding these lines for a few years. Doing good so far. What is supposed to happen? I also breed tufted to tufted on a limited basis and get some really nice chicks. There are always going to be lethals in this breed.

Specific issues from continuous rumpless to rumpless breedings:
Roachback (crippled chicks from excessively short spine)
Infertility (reduced ability to propogate, thus dying off of the breed)
Pasty butt (yes, even adults can become unable to evacuate correctly due to the short spine)

To be clear, our lavenders are a project and this is just one pen of them that is currently laying. They will not remain in tailed to tailed breeding pens in the future. Charlie thought some folks might be interested in them because they're different. Our rumpless lavender birds are not laying yet, but we'll be setting up those breeding pens in spring/summer. Our one pen does contain all rumpless birds with tufted roosters. We do always keep a few tailed birds on hand in case spinal issues are identified, so we can select different crosses to resolve the issue quickly.

When you get into generational crosses for any length of time, studies indicate there will be problems. If you only breed from a certain grouping of birds, you may not experience those issues.
