Long story - I initially started with 6 chicks - two ended up being roosters (huge red combs and wattles, constant hackle stare downs, both started testing their crows) and they have a new home now (an actual home, not my freezer).

Now, I've replaced the two roosters with pullets, but one of my original gang today tried to make what sounded like crows under my deck. And no, I don't love that they hang out there.

I'm super worried she is a he - middle chicken in the photo.View attachment 2284694Large comb and wattles, but they never became RED like the other two roosters. Only now getting a little more color with the new, slightly older girls.

I put a no crow collar on earlier today, but all of the chickens kept wanting to help take it off of her - hence the super ruffled neck feathers.

She doesn't act like a rooster - they all wait for me to lead them around (not the case when I had the two boys).

I know Wyandottes mature slowly and are harder to sex, and I will probably get a DNA test just to be sure... but - thoughts? Pullet? Roo?

Ugh, I don't want more heartache. Chicken life is an emotional rollercoaster, man.

Yeah, it is a bit hard to tell at this age. In an all-hen-flock, the most dominant hen would sometimes "crow" like a roo would. Does it sound similar to a rooster crow or is it more of a loud, elongated "brrrraaawwwk"? (cus one of my hens does that and it can get pretty annoying lol)

I could also tag some other really helpful people to get their thoughts on it ☺

Tag away. It was only once. The new girls came in with more developed clucks, and just yesterday my Lavender Orpington's voice got more adult hen raspy.

I've very much been hoping it was the dominant hen thing. Today they've all been doing more hackles and trying to assert themselves.
