We have an Easter Egger we got from a local farm, who was sexed female based on coloring as a chick. She’s now 12 weeks and has started looking and acting more and more like a roo. Because of the pea comb, I’m really not sure how to tell (first time chicken mama here!) and also I just really want her to be a girl so we can keep her. What do you think, pullet or cockerel?

All boy.
Identifiers would be the bright red comb, stance, thin saddle feathers starting to drap off his body, sturdy thick legs and the brown/red patch on the wing. All dead giveaways.
Color at hatch means diddly squat with EEs. There are autosexing breeds but they are not one of them.

Yup, “she” is a male! I can see pointy saddle feathers coming in, and I’ve been learning about male specific coloring and markings…all the deep lovely red is male as well as the patchy, splotchy, random markings. Possibly seeing pointy hackle feathers. Plus bright red comb, and you mentioned behavior…
All these together strongly suggest a roo!

This.

Thank you all for confirming my fears! And especially for the details about how to tell she’s really a he. We will reach out to the farm he came from and try again!
