In the Brooder
Hello. My chicks are 12 weeks old. 2 EE's and 3 BO's. I noticed today after coming home from church that one of the BO's sounds rather hoarse. It is extremely hot here right now - high's in the high 90's and heat indices in the 100's. My chicks are in an enclosed run/coop with plenty of ventilation, and even a shade awning I made to block any sun. I'm adding electrolytes and ice to the cooler daily with the chicken waterer so water stays clean - give frozen fruit and even a tub of cold water for cooling off. I thought at first she might have something stuck in her throat but can't find anything. I keep the coop and run fresh with new litter weekly (doing deep litter method), and chicks love to range for a couple hours each evening.
Any ideas on what else I should do? Other than her voice she seems otherwise healthy and behaving normally, but this has me a bit concerned. The chicks are starting to squawk more, but sometimes still sound "chirpy." Wondered if it's a part of her voice changing? Thanks for any help.
