I had ordered 25 chicks from a hatchery and they are now 12 weeks old. One of the Marans seems to be having a problem the last few weeks. She started out limping about 3 weeks ago but seems to be getting better the last few days even running. She is smaller than the rest of the group and I had just thought that she may have been trampled. Yesterday I noticed her behind the coop and would not stand. Her legs are tucked under her and she is very alert and eats, drinks, poops normal. I brought her in for the rest of the day and last night. Checking her before going to bed was able to get her to stand but on for a few mins. She stood for a few mins again this morning so decided to take her back to the coop but have since brought her back to the house. I had these babies vaccinated and have never ordered from a hatchery before although have a chickens for about 4 years. Not too sure what to do at this point. Any help would be great.

sorry about your chick.

It may be a very good idea to isolate that chick completely ASAP. One of the symptoms of Marek's is paralysis. Seems Mareks can strike when you get really attached to your chicken, and it strikes often as they mature.

I think vaccine has a 90% effectiveness rating...so even vaccination isn't a sure protection.

There are a lot of diseases that can get chicks and chickens.....so it could be a vast number of things. HOpe your chick gets better quickly.

So I sent an email to Stromberg's this morning regarding this chick. He says that since none of the other chicks or rest of my 35 hens so any kind of symptoms then it may not be Mareks. She is so much smaller than the rest of the chicks - about half the size. He suggested Nutri-Drench. Does anyone have any other ideas on how to feed this baby. She eats well. I have been giving her oatmeal and scrambled eggs with her chick starter mixed in.
