Two years ago we got three chickens, 2 hens and 1 rooster. They were small beautiful Rhode Island Reds. Last year we added 10 more RIR chicks which turned out to be considerably larger hens and surprise, one rooster. Well we're now about a year later and even though the smaller rooster held his territorial power in spite of being about half the new roosters size, the past few days it is evident the newer, larger rooster is coming to rule the roost, quite violently at that. During the day the smaller ones can separate themselves safely from the others but I worry about what happens when we close the coop. Should I get rid of the new rooster or will they all work it out? Thanks in advance.

I would get rid of the rooster. Ours is actually very big compared to the hens and even though he's absolutely sweet to them he damages their backs when he breeds them and he also has very big spurs on his legs. So if ur rooster is actually violent I would for sure get rid of him.

It would be wise to bring in a cockerel that is not crowing yet. You do not want to bring in a rooster who is trying to establish dominance.. I don't have this problem, my SS accepted without any battles the younger CL/CM cockerel.
