13 eggs! how long or will she go broody?

with having more experience with bantam hens I don't know what to expect with my standard cochin. she has already layed 13 eggs but does not seem to be interested in going broody. one problem might be that the roo is a MF d'uccle bearded bantam because my standard roo was killed by a predator, and he took over his girls. this might not even be possible and the eggs might not be fertile, thus causing her to ignore them. i have witnessed him trying to breed my girls but don't know if any good was done. i know that these will be mixed breed but i still think that they will be beautiful birds, thats if the miracle even does happen. My bantam hen usually goes broody after about 10. Right now she is brooding 9.

It is my experience that only some hens go broody. One can't expect all the hens to go broody. Some folks would love to have a broody within the whole folk and have none.

Broody is a natural instinct, that egg counting has nothing to do with, other than the fact that she may become broody after her clutch has been layed. Some hens never go broody ever.... good luck.

I am so new to having Hens. What is going broody mean. I have a 1yr old Bantam and one of her babies that is 7 weeks old. When do they lay eggs. What do I need to watch for. Are their signs she is going to lay?. Another "stupid question". I have had the Hen & baby for 1 week. Before I brought my kids home Big Red got ahold of Miss Carrie. If she lays eggs would they be fertilized? I am in desperate need of help.
