13 eggs today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have 14 chickens, 7 two year olds and 7 pullets. I've been anxiously awaiting the day when I got an even dozen (or any number over 10).

Well, I'm so happy and proud to report, I got 13 eggs today. Woohoo!

YAY!!! I'm there with you, I've got 6 hens that are 2+ years old, and 4 pullets that are 5-6 months old, and I too am waiting for the day when I get more than 2-3 eggs. Preferably around 10! But super congrats to you!!

Well, happy waiting! Here's hoping it will be very soon!!!! Seems like once the young ones started laying, the older hens started laying again too. But that could also be because we changed feeds. They are now getting Purina Layena Pellets and Crumbles. I think switching feeds made a difference here.

I agree on the scratch cut back. Someone, I forget who, maybe the lady at the mill, said that if they have too much scratch they will just get fat and won't lay. So I cut back my scratch ratio a week or so ago, and now instead of getting one egg every 2-3 days, as of this week I am getting at least 2 eggs a day and sometimes 3. I have a special cup for feeding the hens and I was giving them 75% layer crumbles/25% scratch, when I did the reduction, I am now feeding them 90% layer crumbles/10% scratch, my hens are a bit spoiled, they free range all day from sun up to sun down, and they have an "all flock block" which is like the size of a salt block you get for cattle but for birds made up of different seeds and such. I jokingly told my bf tonight that it looks like a crop circle around the block where they have flattened the grass around it. So they get plenty of treats, not to mention the kitchen scraps they get. So the cut back in scratch for my flock isn't going to hurt them any at all.
