Hi there. I locked down 26 Runner eggs. All looked great - 12 had internally pipped when I locked down. 12 of out 26 hatched great. The remaining eggs never internally pipped. We opened two - beautiful fully formed ducklings. Can anyone shed any light on why half of my ducklings didn’t pip or hatch? I want to learn and increase my hatch rates :) it’s terribly sad to know they all grew and half of them didn’t hatch. I can understand a couple not making it but half seems excessive.
The remaining 12 are thriving 💗

My temp was 100.5

My humidity was 53-55% until lockdown. Then it stayed 63-65%

Photo for attention :) there are 7 little ducklings in there …

Hi!

Sorry about the loss of so many ducklings. I know usually those that make it that far but don't hatch, could have been something wrong with the duckling. That many though, I do wonder why.

The temp should be 99.5 for the whole 28 days and humidity sounds okay until lockdown, and then should be closer to 70%.

Do you have a thermometer/hygrometer besides your incubator's?

Most incubators are not correct. I own three incubators, two expensive ones, and none are right.

Thank you for your reply! Yes I had a Govee and second thermometer in there. That’s why I bumped it to 100.5 - Govee says it’s actually 99.5.
Yes too many to lose. It’s sad.

I’m in another lockdown right now. And noticed one duckling popped but couldn’t break thru the membrane … I wonder if that’s what’s happening.
Thank you for taking time to respond. I appreciate it

The temp depends on the incubator. the best temps are 100, not going over 102, depending on incubator, and where you are hatching. Your loss was the humidity. While chicken eggs in my foam incubator I dry hatch the first 18 days, (natural humidity is 50% my dry hatching,) then I bump to 60% but duck eggs need that higher humidity. Sorry about your loss.
