Ok I posted this bird at 10 weeks and everybody said pullet now it’s 13weeks (3 months) old and I’m questioning that. Any insight I know Ameracaunas mature differently.

I admittedly am not familiar with Ameracaunas. I have Whiting True Blues, which I believe use Ameracauna as a base.

Anyway, I would ask...at what age do Ameracaunas mature? Because yes, the comb is starting to pink up, but there are little to no waddles. At 13 weeks, I would expect many pullets to start getting a little pink (all of mine have, anyway). Cockerels should have some waddle development if the comb is that pink. Just a thought... 🤷‍♀️

Okay, I clearly don't know anything about Ameracaunas. 🤦‍♀️ Looking at the tail makes me question my first comment. Please disregard my comments. I am not yet caffeinated. I cannot be trusted yet. 😂🤣🤪

Yeah everything I read on Ameracaunas roosters is they start to develop around 3 months. This was what it looked like at 8 weeks and totally looks like a pullet. The tail has totally changed . I know this breed doesn’t have a very pronounced comb or waddle so it’s hard to tell. It’s shy and avoids me isn’t bossy

Ams don’t get waddles because of the beard

Beards in chickens inhibit wattle growth. lt is important to note that several studies have identified that wattles are absent or small when Mb is present (RG, S 1990). Many researchers speculate that the Mb trait is highly associated with the Wattles locus and that there are underlying complex interactions between Mb and Wattles (Source).

Tails are completely ineffective when sexing young chickens. By the time sickle feathers appear, there are many, many more visible secondary sex characteristics that I would lean away from the practice entirely.

That being said, due to pointed saddle feathers, this bird is undoubtedly a cockerel. :)
