According to posted ordinances, any information I could find on the internet via the Wyandotte county website, a permit costs $12, renewal is free, and covers 6 fowl of any kind, except roosters. Coops must be 25 feet from the neighbors buildings and 10 feet from property lines.

In actuality, as of April 2020, the permit costs $10 per year. An animal control officer will come onto your property (with permission) and "inspect" the coop you've already built and tell you whether or not anything else needs to be done. In light of the COVID situation, they ask you not to leave your house while the officer is on your property. After your coop has been "approved," you need to go to the animal control office and pay the fee, the officer will log the application (after they fill it out themselves, there's no signature needed) and you'll get a receipt and a copy of the permit. It took most of a work day to get this all done after setting up the coop. I called the office at 9 am and had my permit in hand by 3 pm, and I'm sure it could've been earlier if I didn't take my time getting there.

I cannot find any written ordinance or law that has supported this change so far. But I'm more concerned with covering my butt right now and taking care of my family and ducks. I just thought I'd put this information out there for y'all. If you're going to get some egg birds for your family in this crazy time, make sure your butt is covered... because apparently you could go to jail for a month or more? This city is super weird.
