Hi all,
It's my first time raising meat chickens, and we have a few 8-week old Freedom Rangers. They seem pretty happy, healthy, energetic, but I've noticed something odd. One of them (or maybe two, I can't seem to tell them apart), don't make chicken noises, but rather honk sort of like a goose. When I pick her up and she is stressed and breathing quickly, I can hear her wheezing a bit. She has made these noises for weeks; essentially her whole post-chick life. The Rangers are quite girthy, though they do get plenty of outdoor exercise.
Is this characteristic of fat meat breeds, or is this an issue that I need to monitor? There aren't really any other signs to note like lethargy, weird poop, etc. Thanks for helping me learn on this new journey.
