One of my chooks has developed swelling around only one of her eyes. It has been there for around 5 days now. I have tried treating by putting neosporin on the surface and surface of her eye.
1) What type of bird , age and weight
approx 2 year old RIR pullet. She is lighter than my other hen, MAY have lost weight in the past few days
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Only noticed change in behavior is that she tries to scratch her head/eye/cheek sometimes
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
about 5 days
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
No symptoms on other birds (I only have one other hen and a rooster)
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No signs of trauma that I have noticed
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
I do not know the cause
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
She seems to be eating and drinking normally. Pellet food and foraged food, some scratch grains
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Looks normal
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Topical neosporin ointment on eye and surrounding area,
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
I want to help her heal on her own. Whatever treatments I can administer
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.

12) Describe the housing/bedding in use
coop has pdz under roosts, straw in nesting boxes. Chooks are allowed to semi-free-range during daytimes in my fenced grass yard, but also go under a deck where the ground has been covered with a layer of gravel.
