Pdz in brooder and basic chick prep questions.

Is it safe to put pdz in the brooder with chicks? I am doing puppy pads with pine shavings on top.

I get the chicks Monday. We are picking up at the hatchery about an hour away.

I ordered gro gel so thats what they get first right?

I also have electrolyte packs so I'll add that to their water, I'm using a chick nipple waterer, how long do you offer that to them?

Once they eat the gro gel they get medicated feed offered too or always have that available?

Day 4 I am planning to start sprinkling some grit into the food too, does that sound right?

I don't use PDZ but I believe @aart has and might could advise?

I only use pdz in the main coop.
Dont know if you would actually need it in the brooder?
I also sprinkle the grit on the floor for them to scratch in or sometimes a small dish of it. Not mixed in with the food. Everyone does different.

I wouldn’t use gro gel, but if you want to, put some right on top of the chick starter

I’ve never given electrolytes and I’ve had chicks take 4 days to ship. To me this is an emergency response, not

This is fine. I would rather just keep a small dish of grit in brooder and offer some eggs and yogurt with the grit mixed in if you like. They will eat a lot of grit the first time you offer it, it will freak you out, its ok.
