14 Chickens, Pecking Each Others Feathers Out

I had an old time farmer recently tell me to add a bit of salt on the treats before I give them to them. Suppose to stop the pecking and aggression.

Did the farmer say why it helps?

They didn't really say but I have read it makes the blood taste less desirable. Sometimes they start to like the taste of it and will eat feathers. You can also add salt to water. Leave them with that water for 3-4 hours and then replace with fresh water. 3 days later you do the same thing. I tried this and one bird in particular seemed to drink alot of the salt water. Laurelridgedreams speak of it in a post on this forum
