As many of you know, I have indoor pet ducks. We recently moved down to Alabama last august for my boyfriend to go to law school and for me to have an important surgery done by one of the best doctors in Birmingham. Since the school year is over, and I'm fully recovered, we decided to go back home to Chicago. My boyfriend david will be going back to AL in aug. for school, but i'm staying in chicago to help take care of my dad who's health is starting to fail.

Well we have for runners, in four different colors. Last time we moved, Ming Mei was only 2 weeks onl and fit nicely in a carrier between our seats in the truck. We didn't have that option this time do to there being a bench seat in our truck, and because there just wasn't enough room. Luckily, we decided to carry my car back on a trailer. I had set up the whole back seat ot the car as a ducky wonderland for th drive. It did get hot during the sunlight hours down south, so we had to roll the windows down for them a litte. We also bought them ice cold bottled water and filled a spray bottle with icy water to cool them off during stops. They were in diapers the whole time, so we had to stop frequently to change them.

You should see the looks we get at rest areas when we put our four ducks on leashes and walk them around. Our little black duck Vinny is rather personable and likes attention. He enjoyed being pet by anyone who wanted to whenever we stopped.

We stayed the night in a hotel and had to sneak them in to give them a bath. lol. Luckily the lady at the front desk kept falling asleep and didn't notice.

Duck leashes? How do those work?
Glad your move went good Nettie!
I would have LOVED to see the faces on some folk when they passed by your car on the highway and saw ducks in the back seat

NETTIE!!!

I was wondering where you went. That is one long drive. Glad the ducks did so well. Are you going to have to fumigate the car or did the diapers do the trick?

Ooh, are you at someplace where you can allow them to spend some time outside now?

Or are they too spoiled to eat mere bugs?

House ducks GONE WILD!!
That would be a strange headline...

And all of your other ducks as well. ^-^
I love runners!
My Magpie (aka Maggie) is hilarious. She walks funny, and quacks loud. Runners have more personality than my other ducks even.

Sorry it takes so long for me to reply... My computer is having issues and is in the computer hospital, aka my friend james' house. lol.

The diapers did do well. We changed them about every 4 \\hours when we stopped for gas/food/drinks/etc. They still made a mess and my poor car has not been cleaned yet.

Victor and ming mei Are currently with me at my father's house. Vinny and Ollie are living with david. Technically, the it's illegal to have ducks in my neighborhood, (a suburb) but they are quiet and i don't think my neighbor's mind.

The leashes attach to the harnesses I make them that also hold their diapers. Most of the time they don't even need leashes because they follow me around.

Ming mei does like the backyard and is having a blast foraging. Vicotr is still very weary, like of anything in the sky including airplanes. Ming mei is upset that she can't come in the house (since I am a guest for the next 3 months, they have to stay in the garage and take baths in the yard). She's like to glare at me in the house through the windows from her pen in the garage. lol. She'll get over it. Their house is in the same set up as home, and when it's hot, the garage gets air conditioned, so they are still spoiled. I spend a good house outside with them everyday. They've been getting extra treats for their patience. lol. They still don't lik their kiddie pool, and will only go in if i encourage them with food. hopefully they'll get over it. Right now they are walking aorund the yard, enjoying eating ants and moss from the cracks in the patio. lol.

I'll try to get some pictures of them today!
