In the Brooder
Hi, I have a group of 7 chickens(2 Light brahma cockerals and 1 Light Brahma pullet, 2 EE cockerals and 2 EE pullets) that are 14-15 weeks old. They share a coop with a group of 7 that are about 2 weeks younger. They all seem to get along fine but usually go their separate ways. They free range all day.
So yesterday I noticed one of the Light Brahma cockerals limping or just laying down. I tried getting close to take a look but couldn't get close enough. I thought if he still was today I'd try again. Still limping today so I caught up to him and checked him out. I don't see anything at all on his feet or legs, didn't see any bugs or anything. But watching him I'm unsure if he's limping or weak. Yesterday it clearly looked like he was favoring one foot but today it almost looks like he's just having a hard time walking overall, not seeming like he's favoring one side. I have him separated now and trying to keep an eye on him, he's acting pretty subdued but when I gave him food he immediately started eating.
The strange thing is the other Brahma male disappeared today. I was thinking that the one that was limping yesterday is the one that's still here but I'm afraid there's something more going on. I can't tell them apart and yesterday they all seemed OK besides the one limping. I know it's very possible that something got the one that's missing but it's just weird for one to be gone and the other acting strange. I can try to get pictures of the one that I have separated but thought I'd see if anyone has any ideas. The others in the group still seem to be acting fine but I'm afraid of this being an illness or something. Thanks
