I have a 14 week old wyondette and we found her isolating herself under a tree on Friday afternoon. When I tried to get her back in the coop, I noticed her having trouble walking and her wings flaring. She didn't have any signs of being injured so I Dr. Googled her symptoms and I think she has Marek's Disease. We quarantined her away from the others and she is eating and drinking but seems like she can't walk much. She tries to stand up (sloppily) a few times per day. I am giving her St Johns wort and a mutivitamin/probiotic in her water. Has anyone experienced this? Do they ever recover from this paralysis?

Mareks disease is becoming more common as people learn what it is. Botulism is another disease that can cause similar symptoms, but many chickens die from it within 24 hours. It comes from eating decayed animal remains or vegetation. She doesn't need to be quarantined unless she is bullied or trampled, because the dust and dander (if it is Mareks) has already exposed the others in the coop, but she could be caged inside the coop for company. With both of these diseases, they may have paralysis in the neck, and food and water need to be placed near them. Poisons should also be considered as a cause.
