My 14 old pullet has one eye that is half way closed. She is eating and drinking normally, but I am worried about her eye. What can cause it. And how can I help her? Please help. Thank you!

I would grab her off the roost tonight and open the eye with thumb and forefinger, and look into it with a flashlight for any bubbles, debris or a feather. If you have any lubricant drops or triple antibiotic ointment, put a dab inside. Then just watch her for the next few days to see if there are any bubbles in the eye or other symptoms.

Thank you! Will do it tonight. I have both, eye drops, and antibiotics. What's better to use? And do you recommend to put an antibiotic inside of her eye?

If her eye looks clean with no bubbles or debris, use the eye drops. If it looks gunky or has bubbles, use the ointment twice a day after cleaning. You can get some saline eye wash at Walgreens or any drugs store for a few dollars. That is good to rinse out a sore eye, and has no antibiotics. How is your coop ventilation? Could a chicken have pecked her eye?

I don't think her eye was pecked. I have a fan in a coop. But I think the ventilation isn't so good. Sometimes in the morning when I come to feed them, there is bad air, hard to breathe there...

Where are you located? Can you make more overhead ventilation in your coop? The picture of the pullet looks like she could be very sick, possibly with coccidiosis, or a respiratory disease. Have you had another sick chicken before? Does she have runny poops or blood in her poop? Is she drinking some and eating?

I am in Ohio. I had one pullet about 2 weeks ago, she looked like she had a symptoms of Marek's disease. I separated her, she passed away. The other pullets with her don't have any symptoms of respiratory infection or coccidiosis. Her poop is normal, drinking and eating normal. How do you think is Marek's disease starts on her as well?
