I have a 14 week old pullet that i have isolated from the flock after 2 days of her not coming off the roost and me having to get her down. Once down she would run around normally. But she sounded "sick". She has a runny nose, that bubbled for the first time tonight, eyes seem a bit puffed but not really bad. She doesnt seem to want to eat or drink. I have her on antibotics and sulfa in her water but i dont think she is drinking. i tried to do water dropplets in her mouth but she spits it back out and she refuses to drink it. Any help? Other pullets seem fine. first noticed her sick 3 days ago. she is still pretty much the same no worse no better. but Im afraid for my whole flock and her.

You are right in that she needs antibiotics. But it would be better if you could use a syringe (without the needle) and squirt more of it down her beak.

Go the the feed store and get some small empty syringes. Load up about 2cc's in a syringe. Stand the bird up on a bench or table and lean over the bird. With one hand, pry open the beak, or pull down on the wattles. Make sure the head of the bird is leaning back, beak up so it goes down the right pipe. Stick the syringe into the mouth slightly and squirt the antibiotics in. You may have to do this 5 or 6 times a day until she gets to drinking it herself.

Good luck with your baby and welcome to BYC!!

I did the syringe today, And she is still spitting it back up. :( I'm sure some is going down. I just didn't want to give her to much! It goes up to 5mL... Thank you for your help!
