But here's another not-an-entry shot of the process:

I was documenting the membrane removal process bit-by-bit -- intending to put him back into the incubator once the dry stuff was gone and, suddenly, one kick and I had a chick in my hand.

I saw it in that contest a few minutes ago. So adorable! Aww, how sweet! How is she doing now?

He/she is fine, though I'm watching a curled foot. If it doesn't straighten up by evening I'll put a shoe on.

Saran is an eventual cull/sale with full disclosure anyway. At least he's not obviously deformed like Slowpoke was.

I find that I don't have the ability to listen to a stuck chick peeping wildly as it struggles while growing weaker and weaker, but I do have the willpower to cull it after giving it a decent chance if it's deformed.

It looks like she's enough in the shell, so Isay that it counts.

Rule #4:

At least one of the hatchlings must be partially in the eggshell.

Different chick than last one. I know this one was still attached to shell because I had to pull it off after I took picture.

These babies were born in a power outage during a historic snowfall. 5 out of 7 eggs hatched and all 5 chicks are doing well!
