My nine Plymouth Rocks that just turned 15 weeks old, still huddle in a corner of the coop at night rather than on the roost. The roost is 18 inches off the floor and they do sit on it during the day sometimes. I was planning on moving it higher once they started roosting on it a night. Does it need to be higher for them to roost on it at night? Any thoughts, ideas are appreciated.

Mine did nt roost either, I had to put them on the roost and keep doing it for three nights, then they finally decided to stay on, now they get up there on there own. Just make sure the roost is higher then the nest box. Mine are about 2 feet off the ground .

How big around is the roost ? Is it nailed down well where it doesnt move?
Mine is about 18" up also and mine like it there.
However they didnt like the 1 " bamboo pole I used in the coop Wouldnt stay on.thikit was toosmallfor their big feet. they do love the piece of 2x2 which is the other roost
All 11 would crowd on it just 4 ft long So took the bamboo roost out last week and added another 2X2.
Yours possibly might be too narrow or wide like mine was. Its a thought
