should i be worried ?? i got a hen from a friend about a month ago and she is laying pretty good right now .. she has about 16 eggs and still she's not sitting yet .. i can't really tell if she's a pullet or a hen ..
but i'm thinking a hen ..
the maximum eggs laid by most hen or pullets is about 12 to 13 eggs .. so i was wandering if you guys have ever exprience this before or if you guys can tell me what going on with this ..

thanks jack

Sorry to tell you, but not all hens sit on their eggs. Broodiness has been bred out of many of our birds today. Out of 23 layers of various breeds, only one of mine has truly gone broody ever. I'd not let eggs collect in the nest. Collect them and when and if she shows signs of going broody, you can give her some to set, fresh ones.

Unless your hen is broody doesn't mean she is going to set on a clutch of eggs........even if she laid 12 or 13...hens don't set just because there are eggs there....

Yep, she could lay you her full 300 for the year and if you let them all collect, she could just as easily pop out 301 and walk away. It's hormonal so you can't make her broody and if she wants to be broody, she will sit on air.
