Hello!
I purchased Opal as a sexed female blue ameraucana from a local breeder. But she doesn’t have a beard or muff and doesn’t seem to have a pea comb. Is that possible in ameraucanas?
I’m also suspicious that she could be a he. She’s only 16 weeks so she hasn’t laid an egg yet but I’ve noticed in the past few weeks some protective behaviors, like charging at my feet if I’m carrying a different chicken and pecking at my hand if I’m petting her friend. She was also tidbitting for me today. No crows! We don’t have a rooster in our flock, so I was also wondering if she is just taking the role of protector.
Any thoughts?
