17 week old cuckoo maran mix laying ?

I think my cuckoo maran mix just laid her first egg at 17 weeks old ? Could it be too early for hazel?
My 21 week old austra white Powder and black australorp Delta just started laying but the color is different then what Delta laid yesterday.

Her comb doesn't look red or bright enough for her to be laying to me.

Thats what I was thinking also , but the color difference in the brown egg through me off so I thought maybe its from her and not my black australorp Delta.

Size and color of eggs can change. Generally they lay the same shape of eggs. That remains consistent from what I've seen.

Sometimes you gotta catch a hen in the box to know who laid what egg.

So the speckling wouldn't be abnormal since she just started laying? The one she laid yesterday had like a powdery bloom on it .. im new to brown eggs lol .

Speckles can come and go on eggs. A bird that lays speckled eggs will always have the ability, but it won't always produce speckled on every egg in my experiences. A few hens do, but many go back and forth.

You could look at Hazel's vent (butt hole).

Look at the other two first--that's what the vent of a laying hen looks like. It's somewhat moist and stretchy looking, and it's big enough that an egg can come out without too terribly much more stretching.

Then look at Hazel's vent. If it looks the same, then she is laying too. If it looks small and puckered compared to the others, then she isn't laying yet.

Or, you can just watch how many eggs of what colors for a few weeks. If you never get more than two in a day, and never more than one of the darker shades, then you've only got two layers. But if all three are laying, then at some point you'll have two darker eggs in one day, or three total eggs in one day.
