18 week old Golden Comets...could they be ready to lay?

Hello,

I have black sex link and red sex link (your golden comet). The black started laying at ~16wks and the red started at ~18wks. That squatting behaviour is an indicator that they are of laying age. As said before I would look around for an egg. Do they have nesting boxes? Have you seen the chickies in them? If they are free ranging it might be that an egg hunt is needed.

Anyways, yes anytime now you should be getting eggs.

I have 4 golden comets that just started laying 2 days ago, at 19 1/2 weeks. I have only gotten 2 eggs from them and they were small and were textured on the outside of the shell, unlike my barred rock eggs. I have 32 layers and got my first egg last saturday, so exciting!!! Yesterday was awesome, I had 5 eggs!!! Yippee!

Mine will be 12 weeks tomorrow and I was told to expect eggs at about 15 weeks. Congrats!

Aren't they LOVELY birds.
I'd get them again in a heartbeat!

Oh yeah, I love my GC's and my black S-L's too. They are the sweetest things. Getting eggs will just be frosting on the cake!

Congrats, your girls are gearing up to lay! Squatting (the activity you described) starts usually about 2 weeks before they lay. You are right, it is a gesture reserved for roosters. Your girls clearly consider you to be the head of the flock, and the roo

. I usually just give them backscratches and tell them "I'm flattered, but no thank you". It makes them happy.

Once your girls start testing the box, pacing, and making an UNHOLY racket for no apparent reason, they're within days of laying. They'll quiet down once they get through thier first couple of eggs.

Gold Comets are the best

Hello everyone!!

I have 11 golden comet 24 weeks old. We have been getting 8 to 10 a day for the last 3weeks. I am just wondering if they all are laying. The eggs vary in size jumbo to small. Today I found one in the coop not in the nesting box. We have 8 nesting boxes. How many does each hen lay per day.

First timer please help

Usually chickens lay just one egg every 25 hrs, on the rare occasion you get one who will lay more than one in a day, sometimes chickens miss a day, they won't lay at night, so as their laying creeps up to bedtime, they will take a day off and lay in the morning. Hope that helps.
