I had been wating this chick for a few days as it seemed a but off. Standing hunched up and not as active as usual. We think it's a pullet but we're not sure. After a few days I saw some poowith blood in and also the chick seemed very slightly wobbly first thing, almost just a bit stiff.
9 days ago (Monday last week) I started on a corrid dose which I did for a week but by Saturday the chick was very very slow and wobbly. Eating and drinking but mainly just sitting in the run and not interested in free ranging. Monday he couldn't move at all. Sitting in the house and would try to walk and had it's wings flopped out but unable to move.

So it's inside, having b12 and poultry tonic added to its water. Wet mash and scrambled egg, small bits of Cucumber and some bird seed. It's eats bits of this, I haven't seen it drink but the food is v wet. But it can move. Just sits backed up in the corner of it's box. Legs are not splayed out, feet have toes curled in but they uncurl if you try to make them. Poo looks normal.

Would love some advice as to what it is and what I should do to help?

Just updating as in the pic it looks like a lot of poop. That is only from 10am (it's 4pm now) because I've been cleaning it out regularly

Is that a rope or something wadded up grass/weeds in that poop? Do not feed it bird seed. Stick to the scrambled egg and wet chicken feed.

Its a load of grass/weeds I think. I did a bit of an inspection on it as I was surprised when I saw that too. It does break up like grass rather than look like string still. It ate some seeds but not the sunflower seeds. It favors egg. Ate some wet mash yesterday bur today picks the egg out. Doesn't seem interested in drinking today, even if I dip its beak into water.
Thanks for your reply

If that was passed your silkie has/had an impaction which would explain all of the poop this morning as well as the lack of appetite/thirst and lethargy. That is more than enough to cause an intestinal blockage. Do you have any coconut oil? You can take small chunks and put it in the beak it will help grease the wheels so to speak if there is anything else blocking it. I would also dose with some electrolytes via oral syringe or even just sugar water. He may start to perk up later today if he passed all of it, but will still be weak from dealing with the blockage.

Tvm...I don't have coconut oil, only olive oil but I could pop out tmw to buy coconut oil.
I'll try the liquids by syringe. So far I've just been dipping it's beak in the water bowl but it's not interested.

Would impaction still explain the fact it can't walk/stand. It just spreads it's wings out and ends up headbutting the floor when it trys to move. Today and yesterday this has been the same.

Thank you for your response

Yes impaction is very serious. It can cause all of the bodies systems to start to shut down from starvation, dehydration, lack of nutrient absorption, toxin release, it can also cause the intestines to tear/burst and kill a chicken if not passed.

It definitely could.. if it's gone on long enough or if the bird was dehydrated or lacking in vitamins/minerals from not taking in a balanced chicken feed (due to the impaction) or having excess treats (often the best supplement choices include E, selenium and B1, not B12. Using a B complex is a good choice).. however Marek's or injury would be other possibilities.

Does the bird have access to any grit?

Since I also feed a wet mash.. my (standard healthy) birds hardly access the water either.. so any additives like Corid, electrolytes, etc.. must have this taken into account.

It had access to grit in the run, but not since it has been inside.

I think I have B12 in my b supplement.

In the run the chicks had dry feed. Only since this one had been inside its been having feed soaked in electrolytes/poultry tonic water.

Must admit I'm struggling a bit with the syringe 😕

So my best bet is keeping up with the vitamins and electrolytes and coconut oil when I get some.

Electrolyte wet feed or scrambled egg which is best?

Thank you very much for each response
