Hey was there any pictures in the book? If so, could you take a pic and put them on here to show us what the incubator and hen house looked like back then?

Pictures? Tons. Ill see if I can snag a few shots....
Honestly, I figured this would die like so many that resurrect the old ways.
Ill try to get some pics.
You can have your very own copy of the 1946 Shop Notes for as little as $10.00 and shipping. I was hatching eggs in 1946. Small incubators (180 to 500 eggs) looked pretty much as they do now except for the Automatic turning feature. I'll post a picture sometime of an Incubator that I built in 1964 and has run pretty much continously since then. It is still my primary incubator and is running right now. It gets to slow down next year though.

This is true, although they had them then too. They were more like the tilting tray type and Ive seen them as belts the eggs laid on, which you turn with a crank by hand.
I love hearing about the long ago days!!! My dad tells me all the time about when he was little and his dad and him would hatch eggs with a light, a box and some hay. They would keep it moist but never really measured anything, and they had some surprising hatches! Amazing stuff!!! They did most of their hatching in the 40's and 50's.
