I can't get any ducks anywhere around me so is it essential to have more?

VERY cute!

For solo ducks, there are 3 things I think really help...

1. A mirror. Same concept used for parakeets to keep them company while you are at work. Tape one inside the brooder at eye level. Be prepared to wipe it off frequently.

2. A stuffed animal of some sort. It is something soft to snuggle against or climb on for fun.

3. A turkey feather duster. They are about a dollar at Walmart. Tape it to the side of the brooder and leave a gap so the duckling can climb under it like it would under mom in the wild. My first solo hatch also played with the feathers that would occasionally come lose.

Wow what a cutie pie ! I have a muscovy hatch at day 35 right now. I am so afraid because this is my first as well. I am watching like crazy in the room. I can't wait ducklings are the cutest.
