Hello Fellow Chicken Keepers!
I'm still a newbie at chicken keeping and I have a couple of questions regarding food.
I have 3 pekin bantams - I got them when they were 8-10weeks old and I fed them "Barastoc" pullet grower.
Now they are around 20 weeks and they've been on "Barastoc" finisher.
I just got my first egg from one of them yesterday and was wondering if the finisher feed will be enough for them now or if I should put them onto something else? I still have a big amount of finisher feed left because I bought it in bulk and wasn't expecting eggs so soon.
So my questions are:
1.Has anyone had any experience with the brand of food im using? Barastoc?
2.Should I start them on an adult food/laying pellet now?
Lastly. I've had a few issues with 2 of my chooks. The first is all explained in my post "Is it Mareks" where one of my chooks (Henny Penny) couldn't walk anymore and was lying on her back. After separating her and giving her vitamins in her water and the rickets diet she came good. Now one of my other chooks is having balance problems but it seems different to the first chook. She used to walk around fine and for about 3 or 4 weeks shes having trouble with her balance. This one has full function of her wings and has no problem "flying" around but she cant stand up without falling face first or tumbling over. Is this possibly due to diet? (please note: ever since the first chook ive been putting vitamins in the water constantly to try to account for any possible dietry imbalance).
Thanks.
