1st Egg

[1st time]

Hello all, as this is my first time raising chickens I have been getting excited to find my first egg which I did yesterday. I have 4 leghorns which were hatched May 2nd, 2 Orpington's which are about 2 weeks older and 2 Partridge Rocks which are about 4 weeks older. The egg I found was I'd say small light brown. I would have to assume that it was from the rock since they are the oldest but it just seems to be a small egg for those big birds. My 8 chickens share a coop with 5 ducks 1 male and 4 females. I usually let the out of their coop between 6 & 7 am. The have about a 20 x 20 pen but I let them freely roam which the have couple acres mostly woods. Could anyone help me out and advise what is the habit of my chickens laying their eggs? Should I keep them penned for 1/2 the day or would they know to return to their coop to lay in their nest? I really don't know how long it had been in the nest. May be a day or 2 at the most. It was nice and clean and pretty but was like a small eggs. I was hoping for large size since the rocks and orpingtons are kinda large birds. By the way, what do you use for beding in the nests and coop floor?

The girls will lay small eggs at first. It takes a while for their systems to regulate.
