I have a small flock of 4 girls that are now 14 months. I just noticed this evening that my Dominique (named Poppy) has a chipped beak! It's my 1st time dealing with a beak injury. She seems normal and is eating, drinking fine. Although I should have noticed because yesterday and today when I gave them a little corn on the cob, she did not peck at it like her sisters did! I had to break off pieces for her.

Please see pics and let me know what I need to do or if anything at all. I heard they grow back...is that true? There seems to be no further damage than the chip at the tip.

x2. I just had a very similar injury last week and took an emery board to the bit that stuck out on the side, so it wouldn't catch on anything. Avoid filing anywhere in the center though as that's probably pretty close to the quick.

The damaged area should grow back in maybe a month or two.

Thanks rosemarythyme. That makes me feel better. She's my top girl but is as sweet as can be. Best buds with the lowest girl. Hope its not too hard to file down. Don't want to stress her out.

Thanks Wyorp Rock. I'll try that tomorrow.
Will it grow back to a point? How long would that take?
There you go. @rosemarythyme has got you covered!:)

I think your Gal will be just fine.

Aww it is very similar to one of our roosters’ chipped beak. All are different, of course, and hoping she’s healing within a few weeks! I usually hang with him anyway so when I noticed the beak I stayed a bit longer, watching how he ate different things and drank water, and all seemed to be well! Still I got the family to check it out and their observations were the same so we kept an eye on him without needing our intervention. It was only a short 2 weeks later when he rocked a perfectly shaped beak…on his own!

Wow Debnsync that's great your guy healed on his own and so quickly. Yeah I spend a ton of time with my girls each day and she's very much her normal self...except not attacking the corn 🌽 haha

Wanted to report back in and 'close' the post in case it's helpful for anyone reading in the future.
Poppy's beak healed nicely without intervention. It took about 2.5 weeks for the top beak to grow out beyond the lower. Then now at 5 weeks, you can see from the side view that it now looks quite normal and curves over her lower beak. But you can see from frontal view it's not as pointed as other chicken beaks are. Looks like a little filed down. But it works great! No more sensitivity and back to corn on the cob pecking!
