1st hatch ????

unfortunately nothing happened so we cracked the remaining 9 eggs and 8 had sleeping chicks in.

does anyone have an idea why this happened?

We are going to buy a new incubator and try again, but that wasnt a nice first experience

I am so sorry to hear this and know how terribly disappointing it can be.

Our first hatch was very similar....18lovely eggs and only 3 live chicks...a few pipped and never hatched. I know for us the humidity was too high as the airspace was not what it should have been.
I bought a digital hygrometer and I must say that I think it made a huge difference in our ability to control the environment. We live in a damp (I can't say humid because to mee that represents something lovely and humid like Hawaii

) climate and I really feel that getting a grip on the humidity made the big change. Since that time we have had above 80% and ofter 100% success rates (given that the eggs where fertilized and/or chicks actually did start to develop).
When you discover what works for you, your climate and incubation system I am sure you too will have lots of little fuzzy butts running about.
Good luck on your next hatch.
