1st & last time raising Cornish X

Yes we processed those ourselves, and those were the last ones. The shrink bags can be found at this site:

I have a vacuum sealer, and used it for some of them. The packages aren't as pretty.....but in all honesty I believe the vacuum sealer bags will keep longer. I plan to use the vacuum sealer for some of my Red Rangers, and the shrink bags for some.....but I will use the ones in the shrink bags first.....
Thanks, that sounds pretty easy and looks very professionally done. I will have to give it a try.

People keep complaining about how much the Cornish X stink. The Cornish X take in a lot more feed than regular chickens so they put out a lot more manure. You have to compensate for that. My Cornish didn't stink. One BYC member all but called me a liar for saying this. I told him to come to my place and sniff for himself, but he never did. I raised mine in a 12 X 12 box stall bedded in shavings. The stall had plenty of ventilation, but it wasn't drafty. I addded shavings as necessary. Since the bedding did not get wet, and there was good air movement, It didn't smell. You could stand right outside the barn door and hardly know there were chickens there.

Mine are NOT stinkin. They also free range, unfenced, from caint see to caint see. Besides, I strongly feel the meat I get off them is worth a bit of stank.

Mine stink because when you stand next to them and they poo, I can smell it. Can't smell my layers' poo.

But I wholeheartedly agree that the meat makes it worth the work. Sooo yummy.

I just got my first dozen this past Friday. I haven't noticed any smell...yet. I have been feeding them FF twice a day and letting them roam when I'm home. When they get big enough to stop squeezing through the poultry netting, they will be able to stay outside all the time. I raised Delawares last year and was very disappointed by how small they were compared to other people's Cornish x. Hopefully the smell won't be noticeable??

I think the smell is bad when you have them in a little pen. When I had mine in a brooder in the garage it was bad (way bad). When I moved them outside with the other chickens it wasn't an issue any more. They eat more than a "regular" chicken, so they are going to poop more. You can't expect to keep them in a small area and not smell.
