Of course, c'mon! -scoots over on the BIG couch-

My bator doesn't give a humidity read out. I thought it did, but apparently not.
It has a little tray that I keep one side full during most of the incubation period and then both parts full during the last part. It did give me directions for candleing and weighing the eggs to determin air sack size and weight loss ~ that should let me know if I need to increase the humidity or not.

Off to work I go. :-(

It's probably a good thing that I have to work this weekend or I'd be sitting here watching my eggs incubate!!!

Have a GREAT Day Everyone!

I set up my incubator last week so I could fiddle with it and fine tune everything BEFORE adding eggs. The temp has been running within 1.5 degrees in my four thermometer.

Now that the eggs are in, all the thermometers are doing their own thing. Which one to believe.

My humidity level the last time I checked (about an hour after adding the eggs was 64%. It was at 33% when I added the eggs.

I'm hoping to get it between 35-45%.

I think I'm going to just let it do it's thing for a few hours and then regroup at that point.

I don't already have enough gray hair, I guess. By the end of three weeks, I'll probably be bald, to boot. At least I'm not going through it alone.

nope ~ you're definitely not going through it alone. We'll be aging ~ I mean hatching! ~ right along with you! I was just sitting here reading the instructions that came with my Brinsea Mini Advance incubator and it recommends the humidity be kept at between 40 and 50% for most of incubation. It shows (and recommends) weighing the eggs to determine the % of moisture lost as being the best way to assess if you need your humidity higher or lower. If anyone needs/wants this info, I'd be happy to share. I did weigh my eggs (tiny little bantam cochin eggs!) prior to putting them in the bator. I had 10 eggs and the total weight was 300 grams so the average weight per egg is 30 grams. They're supposed to lose about 13% of their weight during incubation. My instructions show me how to chart the "ideal" weight loss and compare it to the actual weight loss during incubation so that I can make adjustments to the humidity if needed. Gee, I feel like a rocket scientist!

Today was day one of storing eggs for the NEXT hatch...
