1st OLIVE EGG Alert!

and to tclegg

Yes this were her first eggs ever. She laid her first egg last Sun. She was 21 weeks, 3 days old.

I'm sure the egg will increase in size. This pullet is from an EE hen and French Blue Copper Marans roo.

She was hatched by a Marans broody. The egg my pullet (that laid the olive egg) hatched from was green so it's my understanding she may have laid a brown egg instead of olive.

I'm so excited for the egg to be olive. It has a nice golden cast to it I like too.

Thanks guys for all the compliments!

As I said that sage egg was from out of the wood pile. I mean I don't have a hen that should have laid that one.

I have 5 EE hens. I bought them as chicks from Cackle Hatchery over 2 yrs. ago. I have all kinds of pics of their first eggs but nothing like the speckled sage egg that was laid last week. It was a fluke of some sort.

I've seen a lot of different color tones in their eggs.

Try the Olive Egger thread. I think if you had a known hen (such as Welsummer ) that laid a dark brown speckled egg you would then breed her to an Ameraucana roo to try for that combo.

I like that sage egg too but I don't even know which one laid it. I used to get a medium sized light olive egg that always had the best taste. Earlier this year I sold one of my EE's whose personality I didn't care for knowing in the back of my mind she was the producer of that best tasting egg.

Sure enough once she was gone so was that egg. I knew it had to be hers because the hen that laid that laid that egg was a poor layer and the one I sold worried too much about having all her feathers in place rather than laying eggs.
