Hey All!! My name is Vicki and my husbands name is Jason. We have thought about having BYC for a few years now and finally decided we could do it. Our town allows fowl in city limits, as long as it's approved by the animal control board. So we are in the process of obtaining the required signatures of 8. So far only one neighbor, kitty corner form us thought it was "bizarre" LOL But she signed it. She won't be thinking it's so "bizarre" when she's receiving free eggs :) We are only allowed 6 fowls and no males witch is fine with us. We are currently looking to only have about 4. We are leaning toward Buff Orpington. They seem to be the more quite and easy to handle kid friendly, since we have 3 kids. We can't wait to start this new journey and would love to have your feedback.
Thanks, Jason and Vicki

Buff Orpingtons are the only way to go! They are so friendly and beautiful mine love being picked up even the rooster. They come in several colors ie: Buff, Black, Lavender, Blue and Splash. They are cold hardy bieng from England so they dont need a heat lamp during winter. Good luck with your chicken adventure

Welcome - and if it's any consolation you'll never be a "1st time chicken owner" again! I also went with Buff Orpingtons because of their cold hardiness and what I hear is a gentle disposition. I picked up a few other kinds too, including Easter Eggers because when we were doing our research the grandkids were all excited about different colored eggs.

Excellent choice on Orpingtons!! They are a great breed to keep!

Welcome to BYC!
