Hello,
I have 7 chicks. there was 8 but one died last night. Very sad.
How do you know if you have hens or roosters? what age can you tell. I have 2 that look like the size of doves. they told me they were 1 week old, but much larger than others I got 2 weeks ago.. they are mostly feathered, except the heads fuzzy. I posted some photos.
thanks.

Welcome, I am also new to BYC just joined myself. Sorry for your loss. I had one of my new chicks in ICU (Intensive Chick Unit) in the incubator as she was having a hard time coming out but has made it through and is now in the brooder with the others. I wish you the best of luck with your new chicken family.

Welcome to BYC!

I am so sorry for the loss of your chick. Keep watching the others as well. If they are getting all fluffed up, not eating or drinking, diarrhea and or dark reddish/black poop, you could be dealing with coccidiosis. You can get some Corid at the feed store and use it for 5 days in the water.

Sumi has left you with the in to the What Breed and Gender section for help with ID's. Enjoy your new chicks and welcome to our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about the chick you lost, if you think the other chicks may be sick you might want to post in the Emergencies forum about them https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures and sumi has given you the link to the What Bred/Gender forum for help with figuring out what your chicks are. and you might like to check out the BYC Learning Center, lots of nice articles on all aspects of poultry keeping you'll find helpful https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Thank you so much or your info.. I really appreciate it..so far the others are doing well..
