1st timer with hen hatched eggs

My silky hens hatched chicks this morning. They were very noisy but now they are quiet with only a church here and there. I can't see them because there are the same 3 silkies brooding in them. Are they supposed to sit on them all day, even after they hatch? How can they breathe?

Yes, they stay on the chicks and yes they can breath. In a day or so she'll probably start bringing them out and teaching them to eat and then they'll go back under momma to stay warm and stick their heads up between the feathers and make you go "awe."
