I have an about 1 week old buff orpington, that I bought from a local farm. She’s vaccinated for mareks and coccidiosis. Ever since i got her, she’s been the only chick in the group that sleeps a lot. She’s not as lively as the other ones. She eats and drinks fine. However, I’ve cleaned her bum twice because her poop has gotten stuck to her.

Her poop is normal and normal color. I’m feeding Nutrena Naturwise chick starter 18% feed. Fresh water everyday. I added some poultry cell to their water for one day a couple days ago.

I’m just worried she’s sick or something else because shes not as active as the other chicks.

Any ideas?

I’m sorry to hear about your chick!

Could it simply be failure to thrive? I just lost a chick this morning sadly, and it was acting somewhat like you have mentioned.

You could try giving it some Poultry Nutrí-drench, or scrambled eggs for an extra boost.

Keep an eye on it, and please update us!

I made this post on saturday and it is now wednesday, she’s still kicking along. Eating and drinking normal, and growing feathers. So i’m not sure, hoping for the best!

Usually when they are failure to thrive they pass away within a couple days of being hatched right?

I’m glad to hear your chick is still going strong! Yay!

Typically it can die pretty quick, but I’ve seen them last weeks. They just never quite catch up with the others.

I hope that is not the case with your little chick tho.

Like I mentioned before, sugar water, nutri-drench, or scrambled eggs daily can help a lot. Make sure she stays hydrated and warm, and I will be hoping she pulls through!
