Found this girl atop the perch this morning.... precariously standing at an odd angle. Realized she was holding herself balanced on her wings.

I brought her down to ground level and she just flopped down and started to pant.

Of course.... brought her up for inspection.

Note- She was wormed along with the flock maybe 1 1/2 to 2 weeks ago w safeguard.

Gave her a soak to clean off her feet. Feet are fine, no signs of bumblefoot or scaly leg mites. She did poop in the cage before I offered any food or water. Poop looked normal, so im guessing this came on since last night. Everyone was fine and showed no signs of distress last evening ... other than it is miserable hot and humid here in north FL.

I gave electrolytes and cold water to cool her if it is infact a heat issue.... and layer pellets. Excellent appetite for food and drink. Comb is red.

She pooped again after her bath.... and it smells like 'sick chicken.' I really cannot describe it much more than that... but sick chickens' poop has a smell that is.... 'different.'

I soaked her again, she pooped again.... and it looks like there is something coming out that doesn't belong.... consistency is more watery now, but till rather formed.

**I have a vine that I cannot remember the name of, but I am pretty certain is toxic to chickens. Somewhat heart shaped leaves and purple flowers... It does NOT seem to have found its way into the coop, but it will try because it is that time if the year. I do let it grow up the outside of the hardware cloth for sun shade and then battle it from the inside. Could toxicity be the problem?

I have seen her push herself to standing and actually put weight on her foot for a short while. She doesn't grab as well with the foot, so perching would be difficult.

Thoughts?

could you send a picture of her poop? from this info I would take her inside for the night and let her cool down it could be heat exhaustion

She is now standing for the most part and is talkative. The original poop is long gone.... i wish i snapped a pic.... it looked like the big one below.... but... 'bubbly?' There was white, clearish spots... which is what I thought might be remnants of the worming. She has pooped some more.... so these are the current situation.

I am expecting she will be up here until she is moving around normally and can hook and jab with the normal chicken mayhem.

She had been on the porch with a ceiling fan and a cross breeze. It will be the same temp outside as inside.... 78... so she is staying on the porch with the breeze.

my guess is heat exhaustion

Well, we are on our 4th day up on the porch and she is still favoring her leg and panting on and off.... mostly on. In the event it is the heat, I wet her down with a 5 or minute soak in the roasting pan (🙄) and return her to the cage a few times a day. Water is probably a little cooler than air temp as I just leave the pan filled. She is not a big fan, but it does decrease her panting.

We just did a session and she tried to flap around.... she is in her cage with her eyes closed..... not in a sick sort of way
.. but this is new... OR has gone unnoticed by me until now.

I'm wondering if she doesn't have a tumor or something that is causing her pain and the heat is just making it worse?

She is eating, drinking, pooping, talking, takes deep offense to the cat lounging around in a nearby chair and has laid twice since coming up.

Not sure what else I can try.
