My 2 1/2-year-old hen has become lame overnight. I noticed her acting a little lethargic while putting them up for the evening so brought her in to do a thorough check. She has had Bumblefoot that is being treated, but has not gotten worse. I wondered if she was egg bound so gave her an Epsom soak, dried her off and kept her inside in the pet carrier for the night. While being dried off, she was standing and putting weight on her feet. In the morning, she would no longer stand on her feet and was laying with them curled under her. This was on Friday and it is now Monday. Condition has not changed. She does still eat and drink, but food must be right in front of her because she is not mobile. I have given her more Epsom soaks, but nothing seems to be changing. Any advice? None of the other chickens in the flock are showing signs or symptoms of illness.

Hi, what breed is she?

What has she been eating? I ask because there's a possibility she's suffering from a vitamin deficiency.

I'd give her some B-Complex. She could have half of one adult tablet daily for several days/weeks. I'd also pick up some Poultry Cell for her/their water and give that to them every other day for a couple of weeks.

In case she is having egg-bound issues, I'd also give her approx 300-400 mg. of Calcium Citrate w/ D3. That won't hurt her if that's not the issue. You can give her that once a day for a few days.

Cinnamon is a golden comet. I was feeding them Purina layer pellets, but about two weeks ago switched to nutrewise feather fixer, I have a couple other hen in the flock that had molted. I hadn’t thought about that until now, is it possible that this new food has too much protein?
