2-3 month old rooster with eye problems

We just got Rocky Monday. We were told in advanced it looked like the hens had worked him over. He has missing feathers around his tail and an injury to his wing that is healing. His right eye is cloudy and he does not see out of. Or at least he doesn’t react when I place my finger hand on that side. He also has a small cloudy spot on the other eye. Everything else seems normal. I have not put him in alone with the girls yet due to his wing area. My concern is his eyes right now. His eye is actually whiter than this. Any Help is greatly appreciated!

Did you get your hens at the same place?

My originally babies I ordered through McMurray’s Hatchery, then I have 1 girl that was hatched out and Rocky was rescued from The Chicken Man hatchery. It was the only one with very good reviews that had a barred rock rooster. BTW the cage is just temporary, and he gets outside weather permitting! Also he seems like he is losing his tail feathers also. I have found a couple in his cage.

Have you checked him over well for lice and mites?
I asked about where you got your birds because Marecks can cause graying of the pupils.
Did your hens peck him or was he already injured?

The guy I got him from stated they do vaccinate. I just want him to get better before I place him in with those back yard girls!

It is hard to know if he has cataracts or something has injured his eyes. Ammonia fumes from droppings can also affect eyes. How old is he? I think it may be hard to add him to your flock since he is blind in at least one eye, and he has been picked on. I would look him over for any lice and mites, and try to get him eating and drinking normally. Then a wire dog crate with food and water might be a good way to get him integrated slowly into your flock. But it is a good idea to quarantine new birds, to look for illnesses fro at least a month.

He was free ranged at the hatchery from what my son saw. He is about 2-3 month old Barred Rock. He eats and drinks fine. My son took the cage outside yesterday to let everyone meet and greet. I don’t 2ant to put him in with the girls until he is healed up. May not have a choice as far as the eye goes.

Since your hens have already been exposed to any thing that he may be carrying, I'd fix up the wire cage inside their coop, so that they can see, but not touch him. He can "talk" to them and hopefully they will be charmed.
I have an old hen who is mostly (possibly completely) blind. She has flock mates, including the rooster, ( her first chick) that look out for her. They call her to the waterer and feeder. Her situation is different, of course; She has been with the flock since the beginning and has hatched several of the flock.
I hope your rooster will be welcomed into the flock.
