Do you have a rooster? Sometimes they like to take the place of a roo. Sometimes though, they just like to make themselves heard!

A dominant, mature hen will occasionally decide she wants to crow. This is mostly in flocks without roosters, but there are exceptions. Sometimes it’s due to a reproductive issue, but sometimes not. A hen will not always stop laying when exhibiting this behavior. After my old top hen died, the now-top hen started crowing and hasn’t stopped since.
