I have 2/7 chickens with bumblefoot, we soaked and cleaned one, some pus came out of the left foot, just blood from right, I tried a sharp needle and tweezers to pull plug/debris.
Second chicken discovered while checking feet.
Third chicken had a scab but in between her back claw and the next, easily removed and no swelling or hole once scab was removed. I will keep an eye on her.
I’m trying to figure out how to care for them. They are not acting like they’re in pain. They’re out perusing the yard and not limping or anything. They’re laying and eating.
I scoop any obvious poop in the coop, I clean off the poop deck weekly because I use shavings up there (I have a chicken who lays on the back corner of it and we are going to redo it before snow because I don’t like the orientation and design). I used 2x4 the wide way and sanded and painted with porch and floor paint.
I scrape them off weekly when I change the poop deck. (Sometimes I do it twice a week if it’s really messy). I don’t wash them totally clean, their ramp is also disgusting and other than scraping it, unless I completely soaked it down every day and washed it clean, it’s always gross. We are going to get rid of the ramp when we redo the roosts as they’ll be lower.
any ideas?
As for care, we are soaking, washing with hibiclens, spraying with vetericyn and nano silver, nano silver ointment, dressings and vet wrap. Should I do that once or twice a day?
