What is to aggressive for a rooster and what is "normal" rooster behavior. Is it normal for a rooster to come at you if your holding one of the hens?? Or to come at and attack one of the younger chicks???

After 15+ years, that's how I got nice gentle chickens, I hatch my own eggs and any aggressive roosters got selected for dinner. I've noticed that my roosters that have muted colors are nice, the ones that develop bright colors are prone to harassing the hens and juveniles. The muted ones will take food like a mulberry from my hands and drop it to call a hen over to eat it. The aggressive ones eat what they get and don't call over the hens.

He eats out of my hand he really doesnt like people touching the hens at all. I can not put the 12 week old babies in the coop because he gets on there head and starts pecking them really bad.

I'm interested in your experience with the roosters that give the hens the tidbits. I've got a roo (bantie) that's on his way out of here because he's mean as a snake, with ME, however he is fairly solicitous of his hen. That's the first thing he does when I put fresh treats in the pen. He gets very excited about having good stuff to give her and grabs the best stuff and gets out in front of her and drops it right at her feet. If she doesn't pick it up immediately, he keeps repeating that behavior until she takes it. It is very sweet, but it doesn't excuse him constantly attaching me when I feed and change the water every day. I've even tried catching him and holding him until he quits fighting, I've put him in a cat carrier and left him for a couple of hours in isolation and nothing changes his behavior. He'll even crow while I'm holding him. He's a real little s....t if you get my drift. I think I've pretty much given up on him when all is said and done. I've found someone that doesn't care if he's mean that wants him, so I guess he's going to live there. I just find it interesting that he can be so tender with the hen and super aggressive with me.
