This is what I found upon opening the clean out door to let Mr. Pecca Roo out (he prefers to jump/fall from there rather than traverse the ramp down). They were sitting right on the floor along the door edge, leathery shells split open but yolks intact. Pecca was sitting in the favored nest area with his head hovering above them but hadn't seemed to notice them yet. I think they got trampled in the mad rush to the pop door.
I have 2 BO that both lay beautiful brown eggs. I have 1 EE that has just started laying last Monday and given me 3 green eggs as of yesterday. I have one SLW the same age as the EE. She's been talking a lot about laying an egg for at least a week but so far she's all talk no action. These are the only possible egg layers at this point. My Barred Rock are still babies 12-13 weeks old. So 3 confirmed egg layers in my flock. They are all fed flock growers because of my Barred Rock babies eating with them. They always have a bowl of oyster shell available.
Yesterday afternoon I collected 1 brown egg and 1 green egg. 6 am today I find these 2 identical soft leathery shelled eggs. The shells look a tiny bit tinged green to me.
Whoever laid yesterdays brown egg, well, isn't it a tiny bit early for a second egg? I would have thought she would have laid one sometime in the afternoon. The greenish tinge perplexes me because I only have 1 EE who by the way yesterday laid her egg in the run by the feed dish. Possibly too early for her too? All this and the fact that these were side by side, identical, and laid outside of the nest. Is it possible these are from one pullet? Is the tinge just an anomaly? Is this from 2 pullets who have always had very sturdy shells? I'm also thinking maybe the "shell" is just the membrane that has dried out and is looking leathery.
I took this picture after I hurriedly scooped them out so Roopecca wouldn't see them.
So, any thoughts? Did 2 BOs coincidently lay these? Did 1 EE lay them both? Did 1SLW lay her first 2 eggs?:idunno

From the new EE layer.
Sometimes 2 will go down the pipes and not get shelled.
Hopefully a one time glitch..tho new layers can be prone to softies.

Odd cuz Henneth Fowltrow laid her regular green egg yesterday. Good to know that 2 can come from 1 bird if they are soft. Can that ever happen with a normal egg??
